| Lincoln Medical Center Taking Steps for Chest Pain Center Certification |
| | | |
 | Lincoln Medical Center’s Emergency Department and Emergency Medical Service held their first of several mock chest pain code drills as a portion of the steps needed to become accredited as a Certified Chest Pain Center. This process, in affiliation with St. Thomas Hospital will result in the St. Thomas & Lincoln Medical Chest Pain Center located at Lincoln Medical Center.
“The mock drills assist staff in working through processes to identify patients with cardiac problems that may not present with chest pain,” states Debbie Yorba, Director, ED/ICU/Chest Pain Center. “These same patients, however, may be suffering from a heart attack.”
“These processes allow us to identify patients at risk for cardiac disease with a goal to reduce heart damage”, continued Yorba.
The mock drills were held in coordination with St. Thomas Hospital, Air Evac, Lincoln Medical EMS, and Lincoln Medical Emergency Department.
The Lincoln Medical Chest Pain Center in affiliation with St. Thomas Hospital is expected to begin services in late July of 2008. Implementation of the St. Thomas chest pain processes will enhance the skills of EMS and ED staff already trained in Advanced Cardiac Life Support. |
