"A Time to Remember”
Lincoln Medical Home Health and Hospice will be holding the Annual Candlelight Memorial Service in memory of those Hospice patients served by the agency this past year. The service is open to anyone who would like to light a candle in memory of a loved one or friend who has passed away, whether or not that person was a hospice patient. .
“It’s important to take time to recognize that there are families in our community who are grieving this holiday season”, said Debbie Kilpatrick, Social Worker and Bereavement Counselor. “We want to offer them an opportunity to remember and celebrate the lives of their loved ones.”
“What we once enjoyed and deeply loved, we can never lose. For all that we love deeply becomes a part of us”. This quote by Helen Keller is the theme for the service. Eunice Walker, a breast cancer survivor and consultant, is this year’s guest speaker. Ms. Walker has spoken at numerous seminars and organizations on the subject of grief and loss, and is active in numerous community events and fundraising activities in her home of Huntsville, Alabama.
Music will be provided by Josh Ogle, Carol Cantrell, and others. Refreshments will be served afterward. “We look forward to the Memorial Service each year”, states Nancy Thomas, RN, a hospice nurse with the agency. “Although our goal is to support and assist our patients and families, we are always astounded at the gifts we receive by being allowed to be a part of their very special lives. It’s an honor to take time to remember them, and how they touched us”.
Attendees to the service are encouraged to bring a “tribute” to be read during the lighting of their loved-one’s candle. The tribute can be a poem, a letter, or a brief eulogy. There will also be a remembrance table for photos and momentos to share with others.
The Candle Light Memorial Service is Sunday, December 9 at 2:00pm. It will be held in the sanctuary at the First United Methodist Church at 200 N Elk Avenue in Fayetteville, TN. For more information, please contact Debbie Kilpatrick at 433-8088.
